The salads are astounding and the razor clams are so good you'll be thinning another hem for weeks.

A M A Z I N G. I'm pleasantly wow'd. This was a recommended place that I've been meaning to try for awhile and we were stunned. It's super cute inside and the service was A+. The attention to detail from the decoration to the tables with napkins and water given right away to super friendly staff waiting on you was awesome. They all speak both Vietnamese and English. Now for the food - honestly I loved everything we got: honey walnut shrimp was deliciously crispy and light, Bok Choy had amazing seasoning, both snail dishes with coconut and lemongrass were nice and juicy, the different bún bò dishes were also plated so beautifully with fresh dishes. The ginger lobster is $34/lb and we paid the extra $10 for the garlic noodles which were good and SPICY. I'll admit the ginger lobster wasn't the best I've ever had but still good nonetheless. However please note rice is an additional $3/bowl. Overall, if you're looking for a nicer place for a more upscale classy feel with prices that aren't absurdly expensive, this is the place. The ambiance elevates the meal so I'd def only recommend here if you're eating in. It's definitely not a takeout place or a cheap food court style meal (which don't get me wrong, those have their own charm!). I can't comment on the other dishes that people have noted like bun bo hue or the clay pots since we didn't try it, but I saw other tables get them and they smelled delicious and we could hear them sizzling.

My husband and I came here early on a Monday evening. It's located right off of Westminster Avenue and Brookhurst and has plenty of parking. There's also other restaurants and stores, 85° bakery, right next-door! When we first entered, there was another table of four diners. My husband ordered the vermicelli noodles with grilled pork and eggrolls. I ordered the clay pot with pork belly, eggs, and a side of mustard greens. My dish also came with a side of crispy white rice. Minute by minute, the table started filling up. Groups of six, then nine, then eight, then four and so on before I knew it, the restaurant was completely filled up! I really enjoyed the crispy, steamed rice, pork belly in the clay pot and the side of mustard greens. This dish brings me back to my childhood and you can feel the love and care that was taken into making it. The staff is extremely friendly, they hustle, and the menu is very extensive. The prices are also very fair, I think I found my new place! I definitely recommend and will return. Remember to support your small local businesses.

Me and my bf wanted garlic noodles and we just happen to run into this restaurant. We ordered the garlic noodles and they were so good! But for our entree we went with something that we've never tried before and both were delicious! The sauces had great flavor and the portion sizes were huge! We also liked that they played Christmas music! The service was great and very welcoming. We will be back!

Garlic and Chives is a great place to introduce your non-Vietnamese friends to some yummy Vietnamese food that's not pho! The toothpick lamb is the perfect shared appetizer to munch on while waiting for your entrees. It's juicy, smokey, and the perfect amount of spice. Recently when I come here I've been getting their clay pot rice and salmon! So yummy! The rice is perfectly crispy and the dish stays warm for a while for the slow eaters (me hehe). The most recent time I came, I was a little let down by the service. My friends had ordered a pork chop dish, which she was looking forward to, 20-30 minutes after ordering (after 3 of our other entree dishes had already come out), a server let us know they are out of pork chops and couldn't make the requested dish. My friends and I are pretty patient and excited to try other stuff on the menu so it wasn't a BIG deal but it was definitely felt weird that we were notified after most of our other food was already out :// Other than this I would say the food is a solid 4.5/5 stars and a great introduction to variety in Vietnamese cuisine! Just wish the servers knew sooner :)

Garlic and Chives is located at the Mall of Fortune plaza in Garden Grove with another location in Artesia. It was on the Michelin Guide for a couple years and has been on many "best of" lists over the years. HOLY CRUNCHY CHICKEN WINGS ($12) - these were okay; the sauce was only slightly sweet and not really spicy, and I thought it could've used more flavor. 3/5 DEEP FRIED SALMON BELLY ($12) - the batter was so light and it was so soft inside. The sauce was also good and my only wish was that there was more. 4.5/5 GRILLED PORK SPRING ROLLS ($6) - these were really herbaceous and fresh from the herbs and veggies, but overall were okay. 3.5/5 SHAKEN FILET MIGNON ($16) - this could be an individual entree on its own because it came with rice. The beef was tender and the dipping sauce was a nice complement. 4/5 CHARBROILED COLOSSAL BLACK TIGER SHRIMP ($16) - we got this with extra garlic and it was definitely very garlicky. I liked the char from the shrimp and I wish there was more of it but this was really good. 5/5 STIR FRIED GREEN BEANS WITH GARLIC ($12) - we also got this with extra garlic and it was garlicky on top of crunchy. This was a good veggie dish to get and were decent. 3.5/5 When the name of the restaurant has the word garlic in it, you have to make sure you get everything you can with extra garlic. The service was friendly and the food came out relatively quickly even with the busy-ness and the large table groups.

Not sure how I feel about this place. The food is ok to good but nothing special but a lot of people I know love this place. We always order the same dish almost every time: Spicy garlic toothpick lamb Deep fried salmon belly Beef ong choy salad Vegetarian spring rolls Deep fried calamari Shaken filet mignon Chowfun with beef Garlic noodles Fried soft tofu The first three from the list are the ones I would recommend: spicy garlic toothpick lamb, deep fried salmon belly, and beef ong choy salad. The rest of the items can be found at other places and just ok to me. I also ordered take out before and one time the vermicelli noodles were all mushy. Another time I went with a different group and we ordered a bunch of seafood dishes. They were good but nothing memorable. Overall, this is a nice place with a variety of options for everyone and a good place to share family style.
